Epic V10 Review Print E-mail

I had the pleasure of trying out the Epic V10 on Friday 8 Aug. Thanks to Doug Bitcon from Richmond Canoe Club.  I know the boat model is about 2 years old but its the first time I've been able to get in one.

I must admit I was a bit selfish when he brought his boat down... I managed to prise it away from him after 4 minutes of paddling and managed to keep it away from him until the end of the session.

An amazingly stable boat that showed all the characteristics of your classic Surfski. What I mean is, you could easily throw it around on waves and change direction on runs without feeling like Id lost control. It looks more like a K1, but handles like a Ski.

The open space of the bucket initially made me a bit weary, as I felt there was too much room for water, but the ability to sit in the classic K1 position was eventually quite nice. I can imagine that if you paddle a K1 for technique and winter training, then paddling this ski would allow you to sit in the same position as you would in your K1. I did take water a couple of times, but the drain hole worked well.

My next revelation was the boats unique cut away at the paddle catch... so simple but amazingly effective. I did think that in time Id have to make adjustments to my stroke, but the benefits are undeniable.

One of my most favorite parts was the bucket. It was so comfortable. If you plan long distance paddling you need a comfortable seat. As well as a nice cup, the seat also has a cut away at the bucket meets the back deck. If you have ever had to stretch your legs and back by sliding forward with your bum in your bucket, then you will know why this is a good idea.

Now whether I’d be that much faster in this ski, I’d have to do some more trials, but you certainly felt like you could go faster and when you put in the effort the boat defiantly responds.

Thanks Doug, really appreciated the chance to paddle it. If you ever want to sell it, please let us down this way know first.

My next reviews will be the icon / Robberg and Red7 all new skis arriving in Bournemouth soon.
