Race two of the 3 Beaches Surf Ski race took place on Sunday the 18th April. This was the second race in the two race series for the title of the King of the 3 beaches. The race covered a five mile circuit of the local beaches of Branksome Chine, Durley Chine and Shore Road.
With the barmy weather, the experienced K paddlers set a blistering pace with Simon Dark from Bradford on Avon Canoe Club, repeating his performance from the week before and finishing first in great time of 37:06, taking the title of “The King of the 3 Beaches”.
The second place was a closely fought contest between Richard England, Paul Kingman and Andy Nicholson.
With the great weather we also had two ladies entrants, Alison Dark in the Open Women and Jasmine England in U19 Categories. Well done to them for completing the course.
Simon Dark, Richard England and Alison Dark will be competing at the European Surfski Challenge on the 1st of May in Alicante, Spain and we wish them all the best. Other paddler from Dorset include Chloe Bunnet, who we expect to be up with the elite ladies, Andy Blow and Ben Mason who will be entering the event for the second year.
The next local Surfski event is the 10km from Branksome to Boscombe and Back (B2B) to be held on the 16 May starting at 11:30am. Branksome Chine Surf Life Saving Club will also be running a Nipper Carnival on the day starting at 10:00. The Nippers are our 7 to 13 year olds of the lifesaving club that learn skills from an early age. The B2B race is a qualifier race for the Weymouth to Lulworth Cove race in June.
